BOZEMAN — The Bozeman City Commission is considering using federal grant money to preserve the historic Rialto Theater and the last three 1920s streetlights in the downtown area.
Commissioners on Monday will consider using $150,000 Save America's Treasures matching grant initially intended to restore historic buildings damaged in a 2009 explosion.
No one came forward to use the grant money so commissioners are looking at spending $140,000 to restore the exterior of the century-old theater that has been vacant for at least five years.
The remaining $10,000 would go to restore three streetlights made of cast metal and located on North Wilson Avenue between Main and West Mendenhall streets.
Using the grant money requires a 50-year historic preservation easement.
