BUTTE — A school janitor has been arrested on suspicion of sexually assaulting a child during a weekend camping trip.
Jim Barnes, 44, was arrested by Jefferson County deputies at 3 a.m. Saturday in a campground north of Elk Park, Sheriff Craig Doolittle said.
Barnes is a groundskeeper and maintenance engineer for the Butte School District.
Marge Noyd, human resources and labor relations director for the district, said if and when formal charges are filed, the district will evaluate Barnes' position and take appropriate action.
Barnes posted $10,000 bail Monday afternoon.
