BUTTE - The Butte school board has expelled an elementary school student for bringing a perceived weapon to class.

Superintendent Chuck Uggetti says the board voted 6-0 Tuesday to keep the student out of school for the remainder of the academic year. The student's name, grade and age were not released.

Uggetti says the incident involved a "perceived weapon" brought to an elementary school in late October which caused students to feel unsafe.

Uggetti says the student can petition next August to be reinstated to school.
