BUTTE -- A 55-year-old Butte woman faces four years in prison for shooting at her on-again, off-again boyfriend in what prosecutors allege was a failed murder-suicide plot.
Beverly A. Felder was sentenced on Thursday to 12 years at the Montana Women's Prison with eight suspended after pleading guilty to attempted mitigated deliberate homicide. She was given credit for 269 days served.
Felder was arrested on April 18, 2011, for firing a .38-caliber revolver at Jeff Smith in a field near his house. No one was injured. Court records say Smith was able to get the gun from Felder.
Investigators found a note in Felder's car that read, "I am no longer in pain, and Jeff can hurt no one else."
Defense attorney Sherry Staedler argued that Felder only planned to harm herself.
