TWIN FALLS, Idaho — A carmaker looking to cash in on the continuing interest in Evel Knievel's attempted jump of the Snake River Canyon in south-central Idaho has released a Web commercial.
Archival film footage of Knievel's failed attempt in 1974 as well as Knievel's comments leading up to the jump are part of the commercial aiming to associate Knievel's daredevil persona with the sporty Audi RS 5. The red vehicle is partway across the chasm when the Web commercial called "Return to Snake River Canyon" ends.
The Times-News reports (http://bit.ly/UALcUX) that California media production company Bandito Brothers filmed the three-minute commercial in July.
The first minute of the commercial is dominated by Knievel, a Butte, Mont., native who failed to clear the canyon but made it into the annals of popular culture.
