A 27-year-old Wyoming man was killed in a car crash 21 miles north of Glendive on Wednesday morning after apparently falling asleep at the wheel.
Dawson County Coroner Lance Silha said Terry James Bethancourt of Rock Springs, Wyo., died from injuries he received in the crash.
Montana Highway Patrol dispatchers said Bethancourt was going south on Highway 16 at 12:35 a.m. when he apparently fell asleep, causing his pickup truck to drift to the right side of the roadway.
Bethancourt turned to the left, going into the oncoming traffic. He then overcorrected to the right, causing the truck to roll multiple times.
Bethancourt was not wearing a seat belt and was thrown from the truck. He died at the scene.
His death is the 25th fatal crash in Montana in 2011. Dispatchers said there were 22 fatalities on Montana roadways by this time in 2010.
