GREAT FALLS — A New York man who U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials say took down a portion of a fence and entered the United States illegally in northeastern Montana has been issued a $5,000 penalty.
Chief Patrol Agent Brenna Neinast of the Havre Sector says agents responded to the Port of Morgan north of Malta on Nov. 19 and discovered a vehicle had driven around the closed port that is an entrance from Canada.
Neinast tells the Great Falls Tribune that agents quickly located the vehicle and the man told them he arrived after business hours and illegally entered the country by driving around the port's entrance.
Officials say the man is a U.S. citizen. His name has not been released.
