KALISPELL — A vehicle went off a road near the entrance to Lone Pine State Park, killing the 23-year-old driver.

The driver suffered head injuries in the wreck Friday evening and died at the scene, Deputy Flathead County Coroner Brad Stahlberg said. A passenger, also 23, was thrown from the vehicle and received serious injuries, Stahlberg said.

He did not immediately release the name of either person, both residents of the Flathead Valley.

The death pushed Montana's 2006 traffic fatality toll to 102, compared with 104 at the same time last year.
