Autopsy results revealed that a Forsyth man found dead in his apartment last week died after being punched in the head.
Daniel Young, 55, was found dead at his Forsyth apartment at 7 a.m. Thursday. The injury was caused by an assault, according to charging documents from the Rosebud County attorney.
Rosebud County Sheriff's deputies arrested Mikel Joe Knick, 27, Thursday on suspicion of negligent homicide. He is being held in Rosebud County Jail on a $75,000 bond.
According to charging documents, Knick said he thought Young had broken into his home and stole money from a safe. Knick apparently called Young on Wednesday night, but Young did not answer.
Knick then went over to Young's apartment at 1720 Cedar St., Apt. 2, to retrieve the money, which Knick claims was $2,500.
“I punched him in the head, and he (expletive) fell on the ground and he wouldn't wake up and he wouldn't wake up,” Knick told investigators. “And I (expletive) grabbed a cup of water and I splashed it in his face and he wouldn't wake up ...”
The documents say Knick told investigators that he took Young's wallet from his pocket after punching him. After going through the wallet, he apparently threw it on the floor next to Young.
Knick did not seek medical assistance for Young. The documents say he did turn Young over “so he would not choke on his blood.”
An autopsy revealed Young suffered a significant blow to the head and left side of his face, affecting his temple, cheek and jaw.
Knick's arraignment is scheduled for Dec. 6 in Rosebud County District Court.
