GREAT FALLS — A 3-year-old boy died last week after being run over by a grain truck on the Big Stone Hutterite Colony near Sand Coulee, the Cascade County sheriff's office said.

The boy, Jonathan J. Waldner, was sitting on the running board on the passenger side of the truck, which was parked near the colony's living quarters, Coroner Scott Wagner said.

The driver, a fellow colony member, didn't know the boy was there and pulled away, said Trooper Scott Waddell of the Montana Highway Patrol.

The boy fell beneath the truck and was run over. He died at the scene around 10 a.m.

County Attorney Brant Light said the incident appears to be an accident, but his office still must review the details.

"Like in all cases, I like to look at all reports and all interviews before making a final decision," he said. "I think that's the safest, most precautious way of doing it."
