Columbus firefighters extinguished a small grass fire west of Columbus Friday morning.

Chief Rich Cowger said the fire burned less than an acre and started near railroad tracks about 12 miles west of Columbus. The fire was reported at 7:36 a.m.

Two brush trucks responded, and firefighters were mopping up the scene within an hour. The cause of the fire was unknown, he said.
