KALISPELL — State wildlife officials say a grizzly bear that was captured just southeast of Whitefish over the weekend has been relocated to the northern part of the Whitefish Range.
Fish, Wildlife and Parks grizzly bear management specialist Tim Manley says the 3-year-old, 271-pound male grizzly was captured Saturday morning between U.S. Highway 2 and the Whitefish River. The bear had been in the area for about a week and was reported feeding on unsecured garbage and apples.
Manley says the bear had not been captured previously. It was fitted with a GPS collar so biologists can follow its movements.
The property where the bear was caught has replaced its garbage bin with a bear-resistant one.
