HELENA — A Helena-area man is charged with cashing paychecks from a temp agency rather than delivering them to a worker living in a prerelease center.
Jeremiah Norman Johnson is the son of the manager of the temp agency and a friend of the alleged victim. Court records say the victim, who no longer lives in the prerelease center, reported in April that he didn't receive several checks. He told police he got "the run around" when he asked Johnson about them.
Police found that 20 of 26 checks were deposited into the employee's bank account, but the others appear to have been falsely signed over to Johnson.
Johnson is charged with felony forgery and is free on $10,000 bond. His initial appearance in District Court is on Thursday.
