LIVINGSTON — Authorities say one person was killed and another was injured in a single-vehicle rollover crash north of Gardiner in southwestern Montana.
Montana Highway Patrol Trooper Erick Fetterhoff says 28-year-old Karl James Jacobik of Livingston was headed south on U.S. Highway 89 at about 6:30 a.m. Sunday when he swerved several times to avoid a deer that ran into his lane. The Livingston Enterprise reports that Jacobik, who was partially ejected and pinned under the SUV, died at the scene.
A passenger in the front seat sustained some head trauma and was in stable condition at a Livingston hospital Monday. Two other passengers in the back seat were unharmed.
Authorities say speed was not a factor in the crash, but they are awaiting test results to see if alcohol played a role.
