MISSOLA -- The U.S. Geological Survey reports an earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 3.4 shook west-central Montana early Friday.

The quake was centered 29 miles south of Seeley Lake and happened at 12:05 a.m.

It is the third small earthquake reported in west-central Montana in just more than two months.

An earthquake with a 4.2 magnitude was reported 13 miles southeast of Clinton on Nov. 11, and a magnitude 3.5 quake was reported 14 miles southeast of Clinton on Dec. 14.
