HAMILTON — A Hamilton-area man who had numerous animals seized due to neglect is now charged with aggravated animal cruelty for failing to meet the terms of a deferred prosecution agreement.
Chancy Charles Ralls, 75, appeared in Justice Court on Thursday and was released on his own recognizance.
Ravalli County deputies and volunteers and removed yaks, Watusi cattle, sheep, a donkey, a horse, chickens and ducks from Ralls' house west of Hamilton in March.
Prosecutors allege Ralls lied to deputies about how many animals he had and how much he was feeding them when a deputy responded to a neglect report in February.
The county agreed to defer prosecution if Ralls paid for the cost of the animals' care and could show he legally transferred them to someone else by May 22.
