GREAT FALLS - A Great Falls man has donated half of his estate - $183,000 - to The History Museum.

Walt O. Forsman's donation is the largest monetary gift ever received by the nonprofit museum.

Christine Morris, the museum's executive director, says the donation will help with a museum restoration project.

The History Museum board of directors voted unanimously to name the museum archives The Walter O. Forsman Archival Collection in recognition of the donation.

Forsman, who worked construction and later owned bookstores in Great Falls and Apgar, donated the other half of his estate to the Shodair Children's Hospital in Helena. Forsman died in December 2007. He and his wife, Jean, had no children.
