BOZEMAN - A 28-year-old man charged in a severe beating behind a Bozeman bar has pleaded guilty to aggravated assault by accountability.

Ryan Dibert was originally charged with attempted murder for the Sept. 17, 2008, beating of Paul Overby behind the Scoop Bar. But prosecutors agreed to drop that charge in exchange for Dibert's guilty plea.

Dibert, who entered his plea Monday, said in court he wanted to take responsibility for his actions. Charging documents say every bone in Overby's face was broken during the fight, which happened after Overby reportedly tried to stop Dibert and 28-year-old Miles Kingman from stealing a scooter.

Kingman was found not guilty in November of attempted murder but guilty of felony aggravated assault. Prosecutors want Kingman to be sentenced as a persistent felony offender, which carries a maximum penalty of 100 years in prison.

Dibert faces up to 20 years in prison when he is sentenced Jan. 28.
