GREAT FALLS - A 21-year-old Fort Belknap man has been sentenced to 6 1/2 years in federal prison for stabbing another man to death in March 2008.

Dallas J. Walker had pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter and was sentenced Thursday by U.S. District Judge Sam E. Haddon.

Prosecutors say Walker stabbed David J. Azure in the driveway of Walker's house on the Fort Belknap Indian Reservation. Tribal police found Azure's body lying in a pool of blood in the driveway.

Court records say Azure died of five stab wounds, including one to the head.

Walker told investigators he stabbed Azure to avoid losing a fight with the man.
