Man sues Bozeman police over use of taser

BOZEMAN - A man has filed a lawsuit against the Bozeman Police Department, contending two officers used a stun gun without justification and left him with a serious head injury.

Soheil "Jesse" Verdi filed the lawsuit in Gallatin County District Court on Aug. 11. In the lawsuit, he says that two police officers came to his home in 2007 to check on him after a friend called 911 concerned that Verdi wasn't answering his phone.

Verdi says that he was intoxicated and after he opened the door, one of the officers shot him in the back with a Taser. Verdi says he fell and suffered life-changing head injuries - that he had to have three brain surgeries, has a large metal plate in his skull, and suffers from headaches, memory loss, slurred speech and vision problems.

City officials and police declined to comment on the lawsuit.
