BISMARCK, N.D. — Five men are accused in federal court of beating a man in northwestern North Dakota and leaving him for dead in Montana. The victim survived.
Jeffrey Butler, Nicholas Woodford, Tyler White, James Odeneal and Zachary Mills are charged with kidnapping. All the defendants but Mills have appeared in the North Dakota district of federal court.
Authorities accuse Butler, also known as Pops, of ordering others to kill Robert Osterhout on Aug. 12 in Williston. Police say Osterhout was beaten with brass knuckles, cut with a razor blade, kicked, strangled and shocked with a Taser.
Police say Osterhout was tied up and transported in the plastic-lined trunk of Butler's car to Montana. Osterhout made it to a residence near Culbertson, Mont.
The victim suffered bruises, cuts, broken ribs and broken collarbone.
