MISSOULA - A woman who embezzled $73,000 from Farmers State Bank in Missoula while working there has been sentenced to a year in prison and must replace the money.
A federal judge in Missoula sentenced 25-year-old Kari L. Alfred on Thursday. In October she pleaded guilty to embezzlement.
Prosecutors say Alfred was a teller who began stealing from the bank in late 2006. They say she started with small sums and later took as much as $2,000 a day.
An audit conducted while Alfred was on leave revealed about $73,000 was missing.
Alfred said she skirted the bank's surveillance system by turning her back to the cameras and placing money in a drawer.
