OVANDO - A southwestern Montana hunting area closed because of concern about grizzly bears is reopening.
The state wildlife agency says the Dick Creek Block Management Area just north of Ovando will be open this weekend. Permission to hunt there is granted through drawings held on Fridays and overseen by the Montana Department of Fish, Wildlife and Parks.
What the agency calls "concentrated grizzly bear activity" led to closure of the Dick Creek area for several days. Fish, Wildlife and Parks says the chance of a bear encounter remains. The agency advises hunters to carry bear spray, and know how to use it.
