BUTTE — Montana Tech plans to either renovate or replace its swimming pool, which has been closed for about the past two years.
The state Board of Regents recently approved the school's plan to spend $500,000 on the project.
Tech Chancellor Don Blackketter said Thursday that it's likely the school will replace the six-lane, 25-meter pool, which was leaking about 1,000 gallons a day when it was closed.
Work should begin this summer. Blackketter said Tech hopes to have it ready by next January. Students supported a $20 per semester increase in fees to help pay for staff and maintenance.
Blackketter said Tech has been paying the Butte YMCA about $3,000 a month to allow Tech students to use the Y pool.
