HELENA — Rep. Ken Peterson, R-Billings, said Thursday he is running for the job of House majority leader in the 2011 Legislature.
Peterson will face off against a fellow Billings Republican, Rep. Tom McGillvray, for the leadership post. House Republicans will choose their leadership team at a caucus Nov. 17 in Helena.
"My position is that I think we need to roll government back and protect the people of the state of Montana from interference in their lives from the federal government to the extent that we can," Peterson said Thursday. "I would like to elevate the Legislature to the position it belongs as one of the three branches."
Peterson, an attorney, served in the House in 2001 and since 2007.
