HELENA - The federal government is being asked to waive a technical requirement as developers of the proposed Keystone XL pipeline plan their project, which would transport Canadian oil destined for Gulf Coast refineries. Part of eastern Montana is on the pipeline route.
TransCanada Keystone Pipeline of Alberta wants an increase in the federal limit on pressure within the pipeline. The developers say the higher limit would optimize the flow of oil through the line. Spokesman Jeff Rauh says the proposed limit involves certain pipe specifications and extensive testing.
The U.S. Department of Transportation is accepting public comment until Feb. 23.
