HAMILTON — The Ravalli County commissioners have voted to fire the road and bridge supervisor after reports of problems with the reconstruction of a road and his communications with the board.
The board voted 3-2 Friday to fire Dave Ohnstad from the job he has held since June 2004.
An investigation focused on paving work done as part of a settlement with developers, who sued the county after their subdivision plan was denied. The county found evidence of road failure due to inadequate compaction and drainage.
Ohnstad's attorney argued that there was nearly twice the normal amount of precipitation last spring, causing unusually heavy runoff that damaged the road. He also argued the developers hauled more than 500 loads of aggregate over the road, damaging the surface.
