Traveling Montana’s highways, one can’t help but notice roadside memorials that appear at the scene of some crashes.

The decorations are sometimes a wreath or collection of flowers on a metal marker and sometimes much more.

One memorial on Highway 87 north of Billings features carved wooden and sandstone markers with the names of the men who died there. Baseball caps hang from the wooden cross and offerings of cigarettes and beer lay at its base.

On a corner on Zimmerman Trail, a pair of markers feature flowers, decorations and even a set of car keys.

Another near Worden has a Christmas wreath with a weathered teddy bear.

One marker along Highway 3 has been painted with the name “Brad” and at various times has new flowers and even blinking lights during the holiday season.
