Two people injured in a head-on crash between a minivan and a semi east of Joliet Tuesday afternoon were taken to Billings for medical treatment, according to the Montana Highway Patrol.
The injured individuals were inside the minivan and the extent of their injuries was unknown, said MHP Sgt. Adam Kloster, speaking at about 9 p.m.
The crash occurred at about 4:20 p.m. on U.S. Highway 212 at mile marker 97, a location east of Joliet but before Rockvale.
The semi was northbound and the minivan was southbound. One of those vehicles crossed over the center line, ultimately resulting in a collision between the driver's side of both vehicles. Fire crews responding to the crash had to work to extricate the woman who had been driving the minivan from the damaged vehicle.
The cause of the crash, including which vehicle crossed the center line, remains under investigation, Kloster said.
Both lanes of U.S. Highway 212 were blocked after the head-on collision. MDT reported that one lane of traffic had opened up by about 5:30 p.m. Both lanes of the road were eventually cleared.
