Assistant U.S. Attorney Jim Seykora was named "Prosecutor of the Year” Thursday by the Denver Regional office of the Drug Enforcement Administration.
It was the first such award given in the DEA region that includes Montana, Colorado, Wyoming and Utah.
The surprise presentation was made by Ralph Partridge, assistant agent in charge of the Denver Region, during a visit to the Montana U.S. Attorney's Office in Billings.
Partridge said Seykora stood "head and shoulders above other prosecutors” fighting drug crime in the four-state area.
"He never stops; he never ceases,” Partridge said.
He said Seykora has spent countless hours of his vacation talking to agents and often works 24-hour days handling several drug cases at once.
Seykora credited his success to the agents he works with and to the U.S. Attorney's Office staff, especially his assistant, Debby Boyle.
Notorious for talking on several phones and phone lines at once, Seykora quipped, "I've often said, give Debby and I another cell phone and we could take on the world.”
"I enjoy the work I do and hope you understand that, too,” he said.
