LARAMIE - The Snowy Range Ski Area in southeast Wyoming will be open this winter, starting on Dec. 20.
There was some question whether the ski area west of Laramie would open if a buyer wasn't found for it. The ski area has been struggling financially since the main lodge burned down in 2003 and a new lodge was built.
First National Bank is now in control of the ski area's assets.
Bank President Dan Furphy said community demand prompted the bank to open the ski area this winter.
Furphy said the bank is still negotiating to sell the ski area.
Furphy said the goal for the season is simply to recover expenses while staying open as much as possible.
