MISSOULA, Mont. — A 27-year-old St. Ignatius man has been charged with felony assault for a weekend stabbing outside a Missoula bar.
David Whaley appeared in Justice Court via video Monday. He is charged with stabbing a man in the stomach in a bar parking lot early Saturday.
The victim underwent surgery and is expected to recover.
Witnesses told police that bouncers were trying to get Whaley and his girlfriend to leave the bar because they had been arguing. Both Whaley and his girlfriend started arguing with the bouncers and at some point the victim got involved. Witnesses say the men exchanged punches and Whaley swung a knife into the victim's stomach.
