The Ninth Circuit Judicial Conference will hold its annual meeting at Big Sky from July 11 to 14.
The theme of the conference is “And Justice for All.”
The 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, based in San Francisco, Calif., is headed by Chief Judge Sidney Thomas, of Billings.
The conference will feature a talk by U.S. Supreme Court Justice Anthony M. Kennedy.
General session topics will focus on income inequality and its effects on courts and lawyers; ensuring fair and impartial policing in the post-Ferguson era; the legal history and unique relationships of the Native American tribes and territories in the U.S.; a look at the psychology and neuroscience of thinking and reasoning; and how mindful practices can improve legal analysis, judgment and decision-making.
For security and space reasons, attendance is by invitation. Conference attendees will include appellate judges, district court and bankruptcy judges, lawyers practicing in federal courts, court staff and guests.
