THREE FORKS - The Town Council is considering requiring unlicensed drivers to get a permit before riding motorized scooters on city streets.
"Kids are running through stop signs; they've been riding three on a little tiny scooter - that could cause problems," Councilman John Marceau said.
The town's attorney has drafted an ordinance - which will be the subject of public hearings - that would require kids take a traffic safety course before operating the scooters in town.
The council still needs to set a curriculum for the traffic safety course and determine a punishment for those operating scooters without permits.
State law does not require a license to operate the scooters, because they usually have smaller than a 50 cubic centimeter engine.
