GREAT FALLS — Authorities say a woman in her late 20s is dead after her car plunged more than 40 vertical feet into the icy Missouri River northeast of Great Falls.

Emergency responders found the vehicle early Friday. It had broken through the ice and was completely submerged.

Taylor says speed, alcohol or foul play do not appear to have played a role in the crash. He says the woman was not a Great Falls native, but was living in the city with her boyfriend.
