SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - Federal prosecutors say a Miles City man forged documents in an effort to become certified as a firefighter instructor.
An indictment alleges that David Monington committed two counts of mail fraud and one count of wire fraud.
Prosecutors said Monington forged more than a dozen signatures of South Dakota firefighting officials to try to get National Wildfire Suppression Association certification. According to court papers, the documents fraudulently attest to his training and experience.
The case is in federal court in Rapid City, S.D.
Monington also was arrested in Montana late last year on theft charges related to his fire business.
