LANDER, Wyo. -- The Fremont County sheriff's office is calling the deaths of two Hudson residents in a November house fire a double homicide.
Eric Likes, 42, and Elva Quiver, 20, were killed in the blaze, which destroyed the house the couple was renting. The fire was reported at 9:50 p.m. on Nov. 17.
Capt. Ryan Lee with the sheriff's office said the investigation into the fire has been ongoing since it occurred.
Reached by phone Thursday, Lee said he couldn't release any of the investigation findings, including what is believed to have started the fire. He did say in a media release Thursday that investigators ruled out a previously reported natural gas explosion.
"I can say for certain that natural gas has nothing to do with the incident," Lee said in the release.
Law enforcement staff are certain the fire was started intentionally by someone other than the renters. Lee said investigators have developed new leads and are working on the case.
"Any time we are dealing with an arson investigation it takes longer to put everything together," Lee said in the release. "Much of the evidence can be destroyed and or unrecognizable."
The Fremont County coroner's office is working with the state fire marshal's office and investigators from the Federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms.
Anyone with information about the fire should call Sgt. Bill Braddock with the Fremont County sheriff's office at 307-857-3606.
