GRAND TETON NATIONAL PARK — Grand Teton National Park officials say they trapped and killed a male black bear after it entered a lodge at a dude ranch.
The bear was killed Friday.
Officials said the bear got into the main lodge at the Triangle X Ranch on Oct. 26 and returned the next two nights. It was captured on Thursday.
Wildlife managers say the bear had learned to get food from buildings and appeared to have lost its fear of humans, so it was killed to protect public safety.
The bear was 8 to 10 years old and weighed 177 pounds, slightly less than normal.
Officials say the bear didn’t have a tag, meaning it had probably not been captured before. Its previous habits were unknown.
