CAMP GUERNSEY JOINT TRAINING CENTER, Wyo. — Officials at the Camp Guernsey Joint Training Center in southeast Wyoming say mule deer are posing safety concerns near the camp's runway.
The camp received a special permit from the Wyoming Game and Fish Department on Jan. 5 that allows it to kill 20 mule deer this year to mitigate safety concerns for military and civilian air crews. So far, 12 have been killed.
Two of the killed deer tested positive for chronic wasting disease and were disposed of.
The permit requires that meat from deer that test negative be donated for consumption and that antlers be turned over to the Game and Fish Department.
