Try 1 month for $5

GILLETTE, Wyo. — The Campbell County Sheriff's Office says someone pretending to be a deputy finagled $800 in bail money from a local restaurant manager.

The Sheriff's Office says the impostor called the managers of two local restaurants saying one of their employees was in jail for drunken driving. The impostor asked the managers to send $800 to a bonding agency in Portland, Ore., to get their employee out of jail.

Undersheriff Scott Matheny says the suspect is thought to have called from a local phone number.

At one restaurant, the manager wired $800 to the Oregon location. He then went to the jail where he learned the employee was not there and had never been picked up for drunken driving.
