CASPER, Wyo. -- The Casper Police Department has issued three citations since mid-March to Casper businesses for selling alcohol to minors, authorities say.
The three businesses issued citations were Liquor Shed on East Second Street, Galles Liquor Mart on East Yellowstone Highway and Partytime Liquors on South McKinley Street, Sgt. Steve Schulz said.
The citations were the result of more than 30 undercover compliance checks the police department ran, Schulz said.
The checks consist of a minor entering an establishment and trying to buy some form of alcohol. Officers accompany the buyers to the establishments.
If an employee of a business sells to a minor, that person is issued a citation and the business receives a demerit on its liquor license. Demerits can ultimately lead to a business' loss of its license, Schulz said.
Chief Chris Walsh said his department will continue to conduct the checks.
Walsh said that while three businesses since mid-March sold to minors, 32 did not.
"They deserve a lot of credit for holding up their end of the bargain, for being responsible," he said.
A recent study showed that in 2010, more than 70 percent of all arrests statewide involved alcohol.
