CASPER — Construction on Natrona County’s proposed $11 million juvenile detention center probably won’t begin until this summer, Commission Chairman Rob Hendry said Tuesday at a work session.
The county is waiting for the State Loan and Investment Board — composed of the five statewide elected officials — to formally approve in January a request of up to $8 million of federal stimulus money channeled through Gov. Dave Freudenthal’s office. The county has set aside another $3 million for the project.
Natrona County’s risk manager, Shawna Hicks, told commissioners she will be handling the paperwork for the center, including architects’ plans and the eventual money transfers.
