RAWLINS, Wyo. — Electing the next mayor of Elk Mountain could be left to chance.
The race ended in a 51-51 tie so election officials plan to recount the ballots Thursday.
If the tally doesn't change, Carbon County clerk Gwynn Bartlett said officials will just put the names of the two candidates in a hat and pick one.
Candidate Morgan Irene, who ran against Rick Christopherson, told the Rawlin Daily Times he's fine with however things turn out.
Carbon County officials will also recount ballots in the House District 15 race. Only six votes separate the winner, Republican Don Burkhart, from the incumbent Democrat, George Bagby.
According to uncertified returns, Republicans have won nearly half the seats Democrats had held in the Legislature.
