JACKSON, Wyo. — Firefighters are working to protect Jackson and communications towers on Snow King Mountain from a 2,700-acre wildfire burning south of the resort town.
About 1,000 residents have been warned to be prepared to leave in case the Little Horsethief fire gets too close. No evacuation orders have been issued Tuesday, but fire managers are urging residents to remain on guard.
The fire, which is about 10 percent contained, is burning behind Snow King Mountain less than two miles from the town.
The fire is about a half-mile away from the trigger point for evacuations on the east side of town, but containment lines have been built there to protect the town.
The fire is presumed to have been human-caused because there was no lightning, but the cause is under investigation.
