GILLETTE, Wyo. — Gillette Mayor Tom Murphy has resigned to pursue a business opportunity with his son. The city council will name a successor next month.
Murphy resigned effective Monday to work with his son in the highway construction business. Murphy says the work will take him out of Gillette for long periods.
City Public Information Officer Joe Lunne said City Council President John Opseth will fill in until the council names one of its members as mayor in early December to complete Murphy's term, which runs through 2014.
Murphy was elected in 2010 after spending several years on the city council.
