SHERIDAN — Searchers found a 6-year-old girl sleeping alongside a road more than six hours after she wandered away from her parents in the Big Horn Mountains.
The girl was cold and wet but otherwise unhurt after she was found around 3:10 a.m. Sunday, according to Sheridan County Search and Rescue.
The girl's parents looked for the girl for about an hour before calling authorities to the Dead Swede Campground area around 9 p.m. Wearing flashlight helmets, the searchers combed the mountainous, forested area in the dark.
Janet Hoxie, with Sheridan County Search and Rescue, said temperatures fell below freezing and the rescuers were concerned about moose in the area.
She said search dogs were on their way to help but the girl was found before they arrived.
The names of the girl and her parents were not released.
