LARAMIE, Wyo. — The Half Acre Gym at the University of Wyoming facility is set to undergo a $27 million renovation project beginning this month.
The 22-month project was slated to begin on Monday. It will be handled in two phases, with a target completion of spring 2015.
Half Acre was originally dedicated in 1925.
For 30 years, the gym hosted men's and women's athletic programs, including UW's celebrated 1943 men's basketball national championship team. UW teams won 222 games, against 44 losses, in Half Acre during that timeframe.
The university has commissioned major renovation and addition projects at Half Acre throughout the years, but the new project will include improved and expanded areas on Half Acre's first, second and third floors.
