JACKSON, Wyo. — A tract of undeveloped land in downtown Jackson will be used for housing.

Town and county leaders have approved reclassifying the 10-acre U.S. Forest Service property to residential. Next officials have to write new land-use regulations for the lot.

The reclassification came up as the Forest Service looks to sell the property.

In order for the sale to go through, it has to be switched from a public to a private zoning district.

The potential buyer initially asked that it be added to the downtown commercial district, but the town and county agreed that it should be switched to the core residential district.

The potential buyer of the property is OK with the residential classification.
