CHEYENNE — Wyoming Secretary of State Max Maxfield doesn't need to sue himself in his lawsuit challenging term limits for statewide elected officials.

Maxfield said Friday that a state judge denied a request from the Wyoming Attorney General's Office to require him to list himself in his official capacity as a defendant in the personal lawsuit he filed in September challenging the term limits law.

Maxfield said he's happy with the ruling by Judge Thomas Campbell of Cheyenne. Maxfield says the state's request injected some unnecessary levity to what he considers a serious constitutional question.

Maxfield is now in his second four-year term as secretary of state. The state Supreme Court has already ruled that the term limits law is unconstitutional as applied to state legislators.
