CASPER, Wyo. — Police arrested a Mills, Wyo., man Tuesday morning and accused him of stealing clothing from an Eastridge Mall business and tryingto run from police.
Arthur Brown, 19, was taken into custody at the mall about 11:45 a.m. He was arrested on suspicion of shoplifting, interference and child endangerment, according to police.
Brown, authorities say, went to the mall with two of his nephews and first visited Macy's. Learning that the department store did not have South Pole brand jeans, they went to the J.C. Penney store. There, they found the jeans. Brown then took a handful of clothes and a "fake diamond necklace" and ran out of the store, police say.
His teenage nephews were unaware that he was going to steal the items, according to the authorities.
An employee chased Brown, and the stolen items were recovered in the mall's parking lot, police said.
Brown ended up going back into the mall. A police officer who responded to the situation saw him walking by Bed, Bath and Beyond and ordered him to stop. A short chase ensued, which ended with Brown lying on the ground and saying, "All right, I respect you," before being handcuffed, according to an arrest affidavit.
Police say Brown tried to steal roughly $170 worth of items.
